Doc Shaw was born the only child of Tamie and Larry Shaw. His grandparents noticed that he had a special gift and gave him the nickname Doc. Doc's dad got him into a modeling career; he moved quickly through the industry and has appeared in many print ads. A car accident took his father's life in 1994. He wanted to continue his career, so he asked his mom to find him a agent. At age 6, he was booked into many commercials. His big break came when he got the role of Malik Payne in Tyler Perry's House of Payne (2006). He went on to star as Marcus Little in Disney's hit TV series, The Suite Life on Deck (2008). He ended his role on "Suite Life" to work on his new show, Pair of Kings (2010).
