When Sylvia was 21/22 she was understudy to Vivien Leigh in the West End and went on for her for about 2 months. She then married and had 3 children. She found it difficult looking after the children and working in the theatre so decided to confine her career to films and tv series so as to fit in better with family life. She returned to theatre work in 1984.
