Great Norwegian character actor , a mainstay at the National theater in Oslo since 1957. Best known for his many superb appearances in the plays of Henrik Ibsen , like the title role in " Brand ". Also known for his very distinguished voice , well suited for the classical theater.Private he was a very shy person, and he gave interviews very rare ,if at all.He retired in 1997, and lived in Oslo with his longtime companion , the actress Lise Fjeldstad.Sunderland died the third of June 2012 at the age of 87.
